Suddenly, Valeria is not in her apartment. She’s seven years old, sitting on her abuela’s lap. The abuela is telling her: “Mija, wanting is easy. The question is: why are you so afraid of having?”

She winds the box again. Wish #2 – “I wish my boss would recognize my work.” Valeria is an architect overlooked for a promotion. The next day, her boss, a pompous man named RAMIRO, announces her as lead on a €50M project. But the recognition is a trap: the project is a legal nightmare (built on a protected wetland). She is now publicly responsible for an imminent scandal.
She says:
Her mother, SOFIA, suddenly becomes eerily detached. She stops calling. When Valeria visits, Sofia smiles blankly and says, “You’re fine. I have no concerns.” Then Valeria finds a note in Sofia’s handwriting: “Diagnosis: early-onset Alzheimer’s. Forgetting is the only way to stop worrying.” The box didn’t change Sofia’s behavior—it gave her a disease.
Valeria develops hyperthymesia —total recall of every lie, every micro-expression, every betrayal she’s ever witnessed. She can’t watch the news. Can’t listen to friends. She knows, with perfect accuracy, when everyone is lying. She becomes a hermit. Episode 6: "The Reckoning" Desperate, Valeria seeks out the box’s origin. She finds LUCÍA (70s, blind, serene), the last surviving descendant of the box’s creator—a 1600s silversmith who made it for a queen who wanted seven children. The queen got them. All seven died before age five.
Valeria cries for the first time. Valeria is in a new apartment. Simpler. She’s drawing plans for a community center—not a skyscraper. Her phone buzzes. A new number.
That night, cleaning out her deceased abuela’s storage unit, she finds a small, rosewood box inlaid with silver. Inside, a delicate brass music box and a parchment note in spidery handwriting: "Seven turns of the key. Seven desires spoken. Seven debts collected. The heart wants what it wants. The box gives what you need." Valeria laughs. Rolls her eyes. But later, alone with a glass of Rioja, she winds the key. Once. Twice. Seven times.
