Absolute bandwidth (f₂ – f₁) tells you the raw span in Hz. But —the ratio of that span to the center frequency—tells you how “wide” the system truly is relative to where it operates.

For waveguide or cavity filters, fractional bandwidth also influences Q-factor and insertion loss. Low FBW = higher Q, narrower tuning range.
