Abstract This paper analyzes the 2007 Bollywood film Jhoom Barabar Jhoom , directed by Shaad Ali and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films. It examines the film’s narrative structure, musical score, star casting, and its box office performance. Additionally, the paper addresses the contemporary issue of unauthorized free streaming of movies, discussing the legal, economic, and ethical implications of piracy, and offers legal alternatives for viewing the film. 1. Introduction Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (transl. “Dance, Dance, Dance”) was released on June 15, 2007, during a period when Yash Raj Films dominated Bollywood romantic musicals. The film featured an ensemble cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Bobby Deol, and Lara Dutta. Despite high expectations, the film underperformed commercially. This paper explores why. 2. Narrative and Thematic Analysis The film employs a frame story structure: two strangers, Rikki (Abhishek Bachchan) and Alvira (Preity Zinta), meet at a London train station during a strike. To pass the time, they narrate exaggerated fictional love stories about their respective partners (Bobby Deol and Lara Dutta). The plot twists reveal that their “fictional” stories are actually true, and they end up falling for each other.
