Author: Imam Muhyi ad-Din Abu Zakariyya Yahya bin Sharaf an-Nawawi (1233–1277 CE) Significance: One of the most famous and beloved collections of hadith, focusing on ethics, worship, manners, and spiritual development. It contains approximately 1,900 carefully selected hadiths organized into 372 chapters. Introduction by Imam an-Nawawi "I have compiled this book, 'Riyad us-Salihin,' to bring together hadiths that are authentic and well-known. I have organized them into sections and chapters so that readers may find guidance for their religious and worldly affairs, their spiritual states, and their interactions with others. My intention is to point the way to the Hereafter, to encourage righteous actions, to warn against wrongdoing, and to draw attention to the etiquettes of Islam." Sample Chapter: Sincerity and Purity of Intention (al-Ikhlas wa an-Niyyah) Allah Almighty says: "And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, being sincere to Him in religion, as upright people..." (Qur'an 98:5) "Say, 'Indeed, my prayer, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.'" (Qur'an 6:162) Hadith 1: Actions are by Intentions On the authority of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "Verily, actions are only judged by intentions. Every person will have only what they intended. So whoever migrated to Allah and His Messenger, their migration is to Allah and His Messenger. But whoever migrated for worldly gain or to marry a woman, their migration is to that for which they migrated."
