Danielle Resnick

Danielle Resnick is a Senior Research Fellow in the Markets, Trade, and Institutions Unit and a Non-Resident Fellow in the Global Economy and Development Program at the Brookings Institution. Her research focuses on the political economy of agricultural policy and food systems, governance, and democratization, drawing on extensive fieldwork and policy engagement across Africa and South Asia.

Executive Summary The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N3 is an intermediate-level certification, positioned between the elementary N4 and the upper-intermediate N2. It assesses the ability to understand Japanese used in everyday situations to a certain degree. This report examines the structure, content, and strategic value of JLPT N3 past papers (過去問題, kako mondai ). It concludes that systematic practice with authentic past papers is the most effective method for familiarizing oneself with the test format, timing, and difficulty level, thereby significantly improving pass rates. 2. Structure of the JLPT N3 Examination Before analyzing past papers, one must understand the test’s three core sections. Each past paper mirrors this exact structure:
